While I was in community college working on knocking out my lower-division mechanical engineering requirements, I spent a lot of time making RC model airplanes. Most of these airplanes were made of foam board using free blueprints found online. However, after obtaining a 3D printer for personal use, I decided to test the feasibility of creating a partially 3D printed wing. I created various designs in Fusion 360, using the NACA airfoil for a Piper J-3 Cub. The prototype I created ended up having 3D printed PLA ribs and with balsa spars/sheeting. I used servo motors to create functional ailerons as well.
